Overview
Hours after his release from prison, Jesus Quintana pairs up with fellow misfits Petey and Marie for a freewheeling joyride of petty crime and romance.
When this was being rumoured a few years back, I wasn’t convinced there was any need to revisit a side character from Big Lebowski.
The Coen’s distancing themselves from it all was a wise move – this is nought but a vanity project for Turturro, but sadly all it highlights is how poor he writes and directs. Padded out with small roles by a wealth of names who will likely leave this blemish off their CVs, the film meanders around in an attempt to give some substance to the character of Jesus – the strutting bowler (and sex offender) of Lebowski.
Forced attempts to nod back to those small scenes in the original film, either via re-use of lines of dialogue, or a similarly framed bowling sequence, serve to only remind you how much better that film was, and how lacklustre this one is.
